Fuel Pump

My cj5 has been struggling a little lately between 1000 and 2000 rpm. Missing a lot. Idled good, and ran good above 2000 rpm. I thought carb (Quadrajet), so I rebuilt it, and checked very close for stopped up passages. No help. I tried the electric fuel pump that I had installed a couple yrs ago, which was not being used. Only hook up the hoses and plug up the power wire. Pump wouldn't run, crap. Back to mechanical pump. So I unhooked the hose to the carb and sure enough , no gas. Could easily blow backwards thru the gas line toward tank.
I pulled the fuel pump.
Not good


this is a Carter 6505 only a couple yrs old.
I used a mirror and remote starter to look at the fuel pump eccentric, and it looked good to me.
the real question is, who makes a better fuel pump than this?
because of the power steering pump arrangement, I need the inlet/outlet on the bottom, not inverted.
Any help appreciated.
