It's unquestionably a much better transmission than either the T90 or, especially, the T86AA. You can bore the small index D18 cases out to 4" but I strongly suspect you can find an appropriate large index case for a fraction of that expense. Other than the 10 spline main drive gear specific to the T14, the rest of the large index D18 gears are the same 2.46:1 set as used in the 1955 and newer small index cases. Any of the side fill plug D20 cases will work for this.

x2, exactly. If I may add, the D-20 large hole cases are somewhat stronger. And the D-18 gear sets will fit right in. Also finding a factory large hole D-18 case would likely be hard to do. they were only made about 3 years. If you find a later model D-20 with the rear fill plug it can be plugged with a flush pipe plug and the blank boss on the end of the case can be drilled and tapped for your new filler port.

As Rick on Pawn Stars says, being rare doesn't make something valuable.

Actually made from 66 through 71 so not that rare. I used a D20 case for this-$15 at the scrap yard. An added bonus is if you decide to install the 3.15:1 gear set, very little to no grinding on the large index case is required.
