Decided to really make an effort to get my ‘64 back on the road this year. Got the brakes sorted out, carb rebuilt, tune up and timing done. Now to address the 60 year old steering! Finally got around to replacing the drag link, tie rods, and bellcrank. Set the toe in and she is driving nice and steering is much better!

If "she is driving nice" you probably have the steering in good enough shape, but if you can see much wobble in the steering sector as you rock the wheel back and fourth, or too much slop when turning the wheel, you will probably need to refresh the Ross box with a new sector shaft, bushings, bearings, and seals. They are easy to rebuild.

If you do decide to rebuild the Ross box, do not bother with the imported (Usually sold as Omix-Ada, or Crown) sector shafts, the cam follower pins wear out quickly. Good sectors are out there, and I believe Joe DeYoung, who is a regular on the CJ2A page forum, rebuilds them with properly hardened follower pins. Also don't bother with the imported worm gear shafts, they are not cut right and the spiral often crumbles. Unfortunately I do not know of a source for good quality new worm shafts, but they hold up a lot better than the sector shafts, so yours is probably okay, and if not look for a serviceable used one.

Yeah I am satisfied right now. I can drive down the road at 50mph with one hand on the wheel and I have confidence I won’t end up in the ditch. lol! Tried to post some pics but it said file size too large.

    LOL congratulations.
My daughter showed up on Easter and said "I want to get the CJ running so I can teach my daughter to drive". Soooooooo. after sitting for ten years, at it we went. Same list with the addition to the ignition falling apart.
