Fuel Pump Repair Or Replacement?

Hello everyone, I had the diaphragm on my fuel pump go bad yesterday and after tearing it down I realized the vacuum pump fork was also broken in 4 pieces. The pump looks to be of the type sold by Kaiser Willys (which is to say a repo from ??) and although I'm guessing its about 24 years old it doesn't have that many miles on it. So my question to those who have experience with F134 fuel pumps, is this worth repairing or should I search for a NOS/Used 4032? Also I've been just using pump gas in this 64, since all the fuel system is new from the restoration in 2000 but maybe that's not a great idea? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not a great idea unless the fuel pump, and carburetor were built using ethanol resistant diaphragms. I only use non-ethanol in my Jeeps, and small engine equipment.

 

So after a little more research over at the CJ3B site, I decided to just go with a new Carter M2846, which interestingly are still in current production in the USA and with modern fuel compatible components. $116 at RockAuto.

 

The Carter Carburetor Company went out of business in 1985, so it is indeed interesting.

 

I Googled "Carter Fuel Pumps" and found there is indeed a "Carter Fuel Systems" which is part of "Trico Group". There is a time line on their website showing the history of the Carter brand as it changed hands over the years since 1985. It does appear to be more than just the name changing hands. I may have to order one of those pumps myself to try it out.

 

In 1986 Federal Mogul Corp. acquired Carter Automotive Co. and then sold in 2013 to a private and then again to Trico Group in 2018.
