    Hello,
I am having difficulty locating a front driveshaft for my 66 CJ5-V6-T86-D18. Every one I have found so far is longer than what I have.
My slip joint is shot. It measures 20.75" closed and 22.75" expanded from center cap to center. Most that I have found are 22"+ closed.

I have the original front springs but I don't think it would make that much difference.

Could someone confirm their length with the same set-up.

    Thanks,
    Carl

Was the 225 native to the Jeep? That could make a significant difference if it is a transplant. Old Blue that I got from Fireball has that setup and I could measure the length at normal ride height. That V6 is native.

I have parted out a couple of CJ5s in the last few years and have some drive shafts down in the barn. I think at least one set came out of a 66 Dauntless. I'll go down there sometime today or tomorrow and measure what I have.

V6 and T90 didn't come together so one or the other has been changed. That could explain the length difference.
Easiest solution would be to take it to a drive shaft shop and get it repaired.

That is a good point. The later Dauntless had the T14 which I am not familiar with, but the 66 Dauntless I parted out had the T86 which is the same length as the T90, so if I still have that set of drive shafts it should be the right length. I have a set of drive shafts that came out of a standard CJ5 which had a V6 conversion. That Jeep retained the T90. I also have a set out of a M38A1 which would be the same length as a CJ5 standard.

Is it a factory V6 Jeep with the small U-joints?

Dang, I'm quite the novice to Early CJ5's. Perhaps it is a T86. I simply looked under the jeep and it looked like a t90.

That might explain my difficulty finding the exact front shaft. I think I will end up taking the shaft to a local shop.

Ayuh,..... Over the years, I've found that bring yer ole driveshaft to a Driveshaft Shop, is the way to go,.....
They can replace what's bad, 'n you end up with a brand new unit,.... That fits, perfectly,.....

I went down to the barn yesterday to look for that Dauntless set of drive shafts and could not find them. I Do have a set from a M38A1 but that does not have the small universal yoke.

I must have let the Dauntless set go home with the guy who bought the frame and engine.
