    Hey,

Well I'm about ready to put the trans back on with a brand new LUK clutch, adjustable pivot ball and pilot bearing when I get the bellhousing back from the machine shop tomorrow, turns out the old pivot ball was fused in there so bad I had to have it drilled out. I've got a couple q's for ya:

    1. Here is the pilot bearing I got, which side do I want to be looking at when I tap it into the crank? the guy at the store told me to be tapping from the side that has the groove, I just want to make sure. (i used the grease method to get the old "bushing" style out, worked really great!!! )

    2. Should I put a little grease around the outside or inside of the Pilot bearing first? Of it it goes in easy without it thats better?

    3. What would be the best way to test and make sure I have the pivot ball at the correct length?

    Thanks!

    -Steve

You want the grooved side facing you (out, toward the trans) when you install it. Put a little grease or anti seize on the outside when you install it.

I think I would put the open side in. (Toward crank) That way it would keep the grease in.

    I could be wrong.

Scott the reason you want the grooved side facing out, imagine that your transmission shaft hit all the way up on the shoulder, the surface would not spin but gall, if turned around the surface that spins is shoved tight to the transmission and will spin with your shaft freely.

Thanks Mcruff! I slap that in there today, also when I go to put the trans back on is it possible to install the bellhousing/clutch fork and throw-out bearing assembly before I lift the trans into place and then lift the trans and feed it through the TOB? Or should I install the bellhousing to the trans first? Seems like it would be easier to install the bell to the block first but I don't want to run into any alignment issues.

Also the only trans mounts I seem to have are where it attaches to the crossmember assy and the bellhousing to the block, I took it all off as one piece, are there any other mounts I should have or is that it?

Thanks! I almost ready for the trail :)

Stve you can use an alignment tool to tru up to the pilot bearing and install the disk, pressure plate, throw out bearing, clutch fork and bellhousing, then install the transmission and transfercase as an assembly. Yes the mount on the crossmember is the only one attached to the transmission, there is however a small mount that goes from the passenger side frame rail to the transfer case.
