okay today i installed my rebuilt solex carb onto my 67 cj5 with the F-134 and after 3 hours of troubleshooting and trying to start i couldnt get it to crank over unles i poured gas into the carb, there was definantly fuel in the lines from the fuel pump to the carb but for some reason it would only burn the fuel that was in that line and then quit, any hints, tips or tricks to figure out why it wouldnt continue to pump fuel through the lines or do you think i have a defective fuel pump, the pump is stock i suppose it is mounted to the engine on the lower side and has also been removed and cleaned out with an air compressor. anyone know what i need to do?

check your fuel pressure and check for a clogged inline fuel filter near the carb.

Crud in the tank? Very common in old jeeps.

new tank, new fuel lines with inline fuel filter... no problems there... it just seems like it isnt pulling gas through the fuel pump??

Pull the fuel line off of the carburetor, remove the coil wire, and crank the engine. Direct the fuel into a jelly jar - you should be able to fill the jar in 15 - 30 sec or so. You should see a good squirt of fuel from the pump every time the engine turns over.

okay did not fill the jar like stated above, i went to oriellys and purchased and inline electric fuel pump, im thinking that is better any i have seen people have converted over to that and my buddy's jeep has one too, so now the next question is what should i do with the old fuel pump....leave it in place or make a plate to fit over the hole and cover it or what?
