Doing some more dismantling on my parts Jeep. Whoever worked on this thing last definitely did NOT know what they were doing and liked to lose things! The passengers side front wheel has the wrong hardware on it, wrong wheel cylinder on it, most of the self-adjusting mechanism is missing, but more importantly, the pins that go in each end of the wheel cylinder that push out and actuate the shoes are missing! I guess my question is: does anyone have (or know where I can get) these pins? I just called AAA Motors and struck out.

Local yard quoted me $20/ea for 11" backing plates and drums. Does this seem like a good price to you guys?

$20 each sounds like an excellent deal for 11" backing plates and drums. Is it $20 a side or $40 a side - $20 for a plate + $20 for the drum?

Don I got Billy 2 of his 11" backing plates and it cost $15 a piece just for the backing plates then I shipped them from Alabama to Florida. I think I still have the parts off of my original dana 27 front axle brakes. Let me go look.

Buy the 11's! You have an opportunity that I didn't. I am happy with the 10's, but would be happier with the 11's ;)

Good deal on the 11's. I paid the same thing ($20 per corner). By the time I bought all new hardware, pads, cylinders, hoses, and had the drums turned - I ended up with about $150 for the fronts.

All the hardware is available at Napa.

On the other hand - if you need the 10" hardware, just yell. I have all of it, and can send you whatever pieces you need for just the shipping cost.

Actually....can't think of anything I really need off-hand.

10:1 they have a few burned out YJ's and a kid that doesn't know the difference...;)

That's what I'm afraid of. :( I will say that this is an old-school yard...a dying breed in this part of the country! Not some place full of late-model crap that crushes anything older than about last week. Well, they do have newer stuff there also. I got some sheetmetal parts for my '91 tracker there back in the spring. But the place goes way back into the woods and contains such interesting specimens as military trucks, construction equipment, and 1950s-vintage International Harvester school buses, just to name off a few things.

The kid I talked claimed that they sold a 'military Jeep' last week. Sure would like to know what THAT was!

Brian and I went to that place today. No 11" drum stuff to be had . :( BUT...there are two '7s and a '5, as well as a YJ there. All of them still have lots of good parts left to give up too! Engines, transmissions, axles, transfer cases, Saginaw power steering stuff, etc. Brian did score himself a Saggy steering column as well as the seat brackets out of the YJ. There's a roll bar there that I want, but I couldn't get it out with the tools I had. :( I'm gonna go back after it later I think.

    No, sounds fair.

Don - I did think of one thing I'll need at some point, but chances are a JY Jeep isn't going to have a good one....and that's a defroster duct.

As Boyink said, that's a fair price.

If you buy a "kit" from someplace like R&P 4WD in Oregon... you get 2 new drums, all new hardware/shoes/cylinders, and 2 refurbed backing plates... for ~$275 plus shipping...
    so your deal is good.
