info on frame boxxing (the small things)

    I picked up a 2nd jeep(72 cj5), and it has a very nice frame. I still think it should be boxed. My big question is... Do I weld the t-case crosmember nuts to the inside top and bottom of the frame before I box, or do I just put long bolts through the frame after the boxxing? Keep in mind I picked up a t-18(ford) that I don't have the $ to convert yet, how do I make it possable to upgrade after the boxxing? Also, any other helpful hints or tips would be great.

    Just my humble opinion, but I would want to be able to get to those bolts. It would be my luck that they'd break, and I'd have no way to get to them. I don't think I'd close that part of the frame off, but if you do - I'd go the long bolt route. Just my .02

    Good point. With that in mind, how much do I box and how to I end my box at the cross member? Or do I box it all, but leave little holes/openings just big enough to fit a nut and wrench? If I don't box all of the rail, won't it crack at the unboxed/weak spot?

    When I boxed in my frame, I did leave a small opening to get to the cross member bolts. Which I need to get to about two weeks later so I could lower the cross member slightly to improve tranny to rear diff angle.

    However, I'm not planning to use my Jeep for major off roading, so what works for me may not work for you.

    Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but the answer would be probably not.

    If you box the 'high-stress' areas of your frame, you will be fine. Front horns all the way back to the rear mount on the front springs, then again at the rear spring front mount all the way to the back cross member wil make the frame very substantial. It's just my humble opinion, but completely boxing the frame is overkill.
