    Sm420 Xmember ?

Well got tranny and tcase mounted to engine and in Dana. Im using an AA adapter and noticed that tcase hangs just below xmember, now my common sense or lack of tells me I need to shim this up to make sure it doesnt hang below xmember or am I just overthinking this like I always do :?

Without seeing it I would guess that if you have enough space above it and the body shim away. May as well get as much clearence as you can under there.

From what I gather, there are 4 ways to go about this.

    1) Space down the crossmember with plates/washers
    2) Do a mild body lift (1" or so)
    3) Fab up new tranny covers that make up for the extra height and bulk of the 420.
    4) Notch a space in the existing crossmember so the tranny sits down in it.

IIRC someone posted pics of the last option a while back. I think it may have been 4S50??

let it hang.. you can't break the bottom of that thing.. you shim it up you'll start screwing with drive line angles etc...

You should come over and look at my 465 install. It might be similar. I spaced my crossmember down about 2" on the frame.

X2 on the SM420's Beef- it will likely be stronger than any reasonable skid you could make.

Think of it as another diff on the trails...

Hey Jim, what kind of mount are you using to go to the AA adapter? Im in the middle of the swap too and used the AA made mount. Two, 1 inch thick aluminum spacers between the rubber mount and the t-case adapter.

I'm glad to see this topic come up again. When I had the SM420 in my CJ5, the trans and t case were mounted to the stock crossmember with the two aluminum spacers like Matt J described. I wasn't happy with it. The same trans is going into my A1 and I'm planning on making something more substantial. I look forward to seeing what other people have done with their setup.
