i've been using the M.O.R.E. greasable 3/4" lift shackles on my 69-5. with rancho 1" leaf springs. so far they're great. very solid. haven't really banged them off road yet. they come with black poly two piece bushings. about $69 / pair two pairs needed if your doing both fronts and rears.

make sure your shocks have the length and extension you need for 2.5" springs and also for the added shackle length.

Do these come with the bushing that goes through the frame hole in the back of the front shackle?

here are some pics of mine (2 pages). my 69 had the later "H" shackles, see comparison pics. so check with whatever manufacturer you use to make sure that they'll fit your 56. skyjacker may have suggestions or might even put together a complete kit with shackles. so check with them

the red poly bushings are the ones i REMOVED. the black ones are the ones that came with the more shackles.

again, this a on my 69-5 with rancho leafs. someone else here will have more experience with a 56-5 like yours. i know that there are some members here that have used the skyjacker lifts and springs.

I must not be explaining the location right not the front of the leaf, the back of the leaf that the c bolt goes through the frame not on a mount that is below the frame like in the front. Someone must have this bushing problem before?

Clay, does your Jeep have the shackles on the rear of the springs ("shackle reversal")?

Right, but are the shackles on the front or rear of the spring? Some early CJ5's came with the shackles in the rear ala' military style.

I know what ya mean being a fellow '56er. We have a desireable condition know as shackle reversal. I just used the normal later model spring eye bushings (rubber/steel) for the front spring mount, and used a 1" longer H type shackle found on ebay with the later style bushings. I found those worked fine in the frame hole (normally where the C type shackle attaches.) If you use any longer than that you'll need a longer driveshaft. AMHIK. My '56 sees very little road miles but lots of dirt miles.

ahhh yes. it makes sense now. i thought only mil jeeps had stock shackle reversals so i made an incorrect assumption.

Hmm...I think we need some pics. Seems to me if a C shackle can live there so can a replacement shackle. If you can't post some, maybe Speedbuggy can post a pic of his to compare yours to.

Why not just put in another C shackle? Those are not hard to get.
