I posted a couple of months back about modifying a Artic Top for my Willys to fit the standard slant windshield and building my own doors(can't stand the Artic Top flat windshield). I am well into the project and when I'm done will post a full how-to.

But, anyway, my question is what color do you think I should powdercoat the hardtop? I' m going to paint the doors the same color as my jeep(they can't be powdercoated since they are fiberglass skinned). I wish I could get the powdercoat to match my paint and I would just powdercoat the hardtop yellow also. But I have heard matching powdercoat to paint is nearly impossible. I know the first suggestion will be black, but since this will be a total custom job, I would kinda like to use something different from the normal colors you can get hardtops on modern jeeps from the factory. I would also use the same color for my upcoming rollcage, stinger bumpers, rock sliders....etc..

I have attached a picture of my jeep. Any ideas welcome.

Well, FWIW, brown has always been a complimentary color to yellow (too much Trading Spaces?) but I noticed your seats are black and yellow. With that being the case, I would go with the black top. If you wanted to customize it more than the traditional black, what about black with that spackled yellow look? Hard to put into words but it's black but has some yellow that looks like it was slung on with a paint brush. Very popular with some custom vehicles and it would set it apart from the traditional black and yet bring together your exterior yellow and interior yellow and black colors.

My $0.0175 cents (factoring in inflation).

I Have to agree.. you have sort of "painted yourself into a corner" black would look great. Another option would be paint it same color as the jeep and use some black to accent it. Buy the way "awesome jeep" how about sharing the info on mods.

My inclination would be yellow with a white top to the roof - or all white including the doors.

You need to get photoshopping to see what it looks like.

Thanks for the replies and keep them coming. Its looking like I may have to go black on the hardtop and yellow doors. I would like to go yellow hardtop, but since the jeep is painted and the hardtop is going to be powdercoated, I'll never get them to match. Not sure how odd it would look if they were different shades of yellow. (the doors will be painted so no problem matching colors there) If I used a new color all together, I would also use it on my upcoming roll cage and stinger bumpers, which also makes the decision tuffer. :?

    My jeep specs are:

dana 44 axles front and rear from waggy
spring-over lift with superlift springs(wish I would have used different springs)
staight six studebaker bored .060 over(newly rebuilt)
    stock tranny and transfercase(newly rebuilt)
aluminum aftermarket radiator, with Ford Taurus electric fan
aftermarket hella headlights(helps make room for radiator)
    power brakes(from waggy)
power steering, with high steer kit, saginaw conversion
    tilt steering from chevy pickup
    bucket racing seats
12volt conversion, 130amp hot rod alternator

    Many other mods. still coming.

IMHO anything but an all-black top is going to detract from the timeless simplicity of the flattie -- even with custom flare work over the rear tires. Same for all the tubework.

I finally finished by hardtop mods. This was a Artic brand hardtop, I cut the roof back about 6 inches to fit my original windshield(CJ3A) so I wouldn't have to use the flat windshield that came with the top. I just couldn't get used to that look. The only really hard part was building the doors to fit the new opening, since using the original windshield for my jeep, now made the doors for the hardtop not fit. The doors are steel frames with fiberglass skins. Yes, I decided to go with more yellow on the top.

    Thanks,

    Randy

Why does the drivers side door look different than the pass side? Seems to have some sort of effects built into it? Or am I seeing things?

Yes, the two doors are different. It was my first time working with fiberglass, so I had to refine my design a little as I went. I built the driver's side door first and then the passenger. I would have liked them to both be like the passenger side, but I guess you will never see both doors at the same time anyway. I had so much time and dollars invested in both, I couldn't justify doing the drivers side again.
