I got the electric choke for my carb. I got it all isntalled, and i turned the key and it does not hit the cam. I still have to pull it apart to see if the coil is connecting to the lever. But my question is does it expand or contract (the coil) once power is applied to it? I did notice the cap containing the coil element got pretty warm, given i do belive that supposed to be like that. The instructions are vague at best. What have you guys done when installing the choke?

The coil gets warmer as you described Dan, so the bimetal spring expands with time. You may have to 'speriment to find the spot that works for your setup, but I've had good luck with setting it so that a stone-cold engine has the choke all the way closed, and then checking to see if the choke opens all the way after 10 minutes or so of idling. Once it gets up to 180* or so, it should be wide open, make sense?

I always tend to set to the lean side. With the engine cold (50/60 degrees) loosen the screws turn the bakelite cap to the lean direction, until the choke plate just unseats, or just lifts slightly. Now go key on (not start) and the choke should be completely open inside of 10 minutes (more like 5-6). Now key off to let the choke coil cool down, go for a start, let the engine lead you to a proper setting, but no mater what after making adjustments to suit the choke should be completely open at 10 minutes. I like a lean setting to keep the raw gas from washing down the cylinders too much.
