I've got a two barrel Motorcraft on my 360 and was wondering how to lean it out. Which way do you turn the mixture screws, and are there other ways to "lean" out the carb? New to motorcrafts.
When running on normal temp days (60 degrees and above) it runs kind-of crappy after warming up, and yesterday with it only 22 degrees, the Jeep ran like a champ!

a basic starting point would be to turn the 2 idle mixture screws all the way in (clockwise-rich) until seated WARNING: use very light pressure, do not overtighten.
Then back both screws out 2 1/2 turns (counter clockwise-lean). This is your basic starting point to start from.
it's best to use a tachometer and watch RPMs while adjusting; you could also use a vacuum gauge, to obtain highest reading.
Old time mechanics use their ears; just listen to the changes in RPM.
You might be lean for warm temps; running better when cold might indicate the choke was still on/richer mixture ran better.

What's the history of this 360? Still have your smog equipment? These carburetors are jetted to run properly when the air/fuel mixture is diluted with exhaust gas. If you remove the EGR, they may run too lean.

You can adjust the idle mixture, change the main jets, or change the power valve for one with a different vacuum setting. I've read about drilling out the idle transfer tubes too, but have not tried that.
