I recently found another L-head to replace the one in my jeep. As I started looking at it I noticed some differences in the oil lines to the filter. The new(er) engine came from a pickup and the one in my jeep came from ?? so I have no idea what is original.
Looking at the driver's side of the block...on my original engine the oil line to the filter is coming from a port at the very front of the engine (right behind the fuel pump) and the oil presure sensor is at the rearmost port in the side of the engine.
On this new engine both the oil pressure sensor and the line to the filter are coming from the rearmost port.
Is there any reason for the difference? What is the better routing considering the oil path within the engine? Should the oil pressure sensor be at one end versus the other for a better reading?

    Thanks in advance,
    Stephen

Stephen, I don't think it makes any difference: pressure is pressure.
the only slight advantage I can see with it being near or teed by the oil line: if an oil line broke, MIGHT give you a faster low oil pressure reading than being farther away; it might also start fluctuating sooner.

What Jim said. Another advantage of using the Tee is that you can get to the oil line without removing the fuel pump. ;) I don't think it matter much either way how you plumb it all in.
