So my newest stumbling block is getting my engine/trans and transfer case positioned between the frame rails. I'm having a tough time trying to figure out how to attach the adapter to the crossmember. When I bought the adapter from AA, I also bought a "kit" for mounting the transfer case to the stock crossmember. What a waste.

I have the transfer case "floating" on the torque bushing (that's what I call it) and bolt. When I have the engine sitting level side to side, the transfer case seems to sit up way too high (~5" between top of crossmember and mounting surface on the adapter). I think the top of the t-case is where the floor should be when the engine mounts are level side to side. So I don't know if I should try to put spacers between the crossmember and the frame or if I should try to build a crossmember from scratch. I'd prefer to keep/modify the original crossmember rather than build a new one.

Has anyone used the AA SM420 adapter? I'm hoping someone can help me figure out why I can't figure this thing out!

    Thanks!

I just went through this also I ended up with 2 aluminum spacers in between the adapter and mount. And two 1/4 inch steel spacer in between the crossmember and frame to drop the whole thing down enough also used a couple urethane bushings for transfercase mount. And yes I KNOW UWOP.
Ill try to get some this afternoon

Just finished up my SM420 swap last week using the AA adapter and ran into the same problem. My engine wasn't going to move other than the angle it sat on the mounts and I had a measurement that I wanted to be as close to as possible. I got the trans, t-case and od in the jeep at one shot and had to reconfigure the crossmember. I started out like you, with the crossmember bolted to just the t-case stabilizer tightened down to spec. (spec in my case meant the rubber mushed a good bit, but not the whole way.)
The next issue was the AA mount. The single 1" aluminum spacer that came with the kit didn't clear the adapter so I had to get another one from AA to clear it and make enough room for the rubber mount. I wasn't too delighted at this setup but couldn't see many other ways around it. Below the rubber mount is some 5/8" x 3" flat stock that made the crossmember, not yet bolted to the frame, sit completely level with all the mounts tightened.

This left the crossmember sit exactly 1" below the frame rail, which I used some 1/2" flat stock to cover.

Besides some new holes in the crossmembers for bolts, I didn't need to modify the crossmember itself at all. Hope this helps!
