How much of the shifter shaft should be sticking out of the OD case when the OD is engaged and when it is in Direct? I just got the OD in and I'm trying to determine how much to allow for the shifter to travel when I make a new linkage. When the shifter shaft is "out" (about 1 3/4" from the OD case to the end of the shaft) then the OD is engaged, right? Thanks.

Thanks Brad. I think the OD is engaged right now. Tomorrow I'm going to push the shaft in by hand, which should be Direct, and give it a shot. For some reason I guess I was just a little "gun-shy" about doing it. Maybe it's because it took me a few months to decide to part with the money to get it.;)

The OD should have a spring loaded poppit ball that enguages a detent in the shift rail, it'll be very obvious when it's in either position. IIRC the rail only moves in & out about 3/4". If you can't move the rail try slackening off the spring, the adjuster is that screw head sticking out where the shift rail goes into the case. Don't take the screw right out or the spring & ball wil shoot out & dissapeer into a miniature black hole never to be seen again :(.
