On my 74 there is some slack in the steering box. I have thoroughly checked that it is the box and not the tie rods or wheels or anything else. I plan on putting the front end on jack stands and adjusting the box via the adjustment screw on the top of the box. Anyone have any experience doing this. Any traps or pitfalls?

Don't adjust the gear mesh (top screw) without adjusting the end play first. The end play is controlled by the big nut and locknut on the top end of the box.

    Look here http://www.c104.net/manual/Section_11.pdf (slow link!)

Is that the big nut that you can see if you were to pan down from the front bumper and the end play nut would be staring you in the face? question is, is that the correct nut for end play adjustment? The issue is to much play (left to right) in the wheel. I get like 1/8 of a turn before the tires start to move!
