This might be a dumb question but why not rack and pinion for the early jeeps? I done a search and did not find any conversions to rack and pinion. Whats the scoop?

    mb82 I feel great!

    There are a few reasons.

    1. There is no real effective way to mount rack&pinion on a live axle vehical. The modern Vehicals that use it all have independent front suspention.
    2. When the Saginaw swap is easy it makes more sence. Saginaw steering is what modern Jeeps still run, the box is mounted on the frame infront of the axle.
    3. It has been done but the rack has to be put into an area that it is likely to be damaged by rocks logs or Hondas.

Look up Saginaw steering in the tech section, it is the way to go in these early Jeeps.
All of this stuff is my $.02.
