I'm laying out a new dash for SSDutch...and wondering if anyone has used aftermarket switches for the headights/parking lights?

I've got this notion of "all" switches being in one panel - lights, wipers, heater, etc.

going to a relay i din't see any reason why it shouldn't work... i know i was talking to a guy around here that had everything wired to toggle switches (starter, coil, turn signals, brake lights, etc., etc.). it all went between the spreaders on the rollcage to boot. it's a little bit much for me, but the finished product looked nice.

The smaller toggles I use would work, but if you are going to a larger (1/2" mounting hole) then you'll need to check. I'm thinking of an ON-ON-ON switch. If your ON-ON-ON switch has continuity with contacts 3-5 and 2-4 (or 1-3 and 4-6) when set in the middle position, then you should be good with this diagram. May have to change it side to side depending, but should work.

Thanks guys...I have this switch panel :

And pretty sure the switches are in 1/2" holes.

The only bummer is heat...I need a 4 position switch and nosing around the web I don't see a 4 position toggle.

Mike when I had it hooked up, I had the parking lights and dash gauges ran to one switch, and the head lights and tail lights hooked to another. Then had aux lights and the ign. hooked up on two more. And still had one open spot incase I got something else to hook up.

Mike I always wire sand rails up the way your talking.
Gonna do Bamm Bamm the same way.
In fact I had my aux lights wired indivually so I could chose one at a time or all of them or any combo there of..

    I'm figuring:
    - Lights
    - Wipers
    - W/S Washer
    - Aux light (s)
    - Heater

I'll have to trade out some of the switches for other styles, but other than the heat it's all do-able. The HeaterCraft setup has low-med-high and I want to retain that.

Might work out OK though, as I'd also like to try and get a switch the idle speed of the 4.3 once the FI is in - be nice for running the OBA.

Not easy figuring out where to put everything - just about the time I get a layout I like I look under the dash and see all the depth constraints...

This is the exact reason I bought a new dash from Hippo. Cleaning up the look and using a toggle system. No key will be necessary when I'm done as well. ;)

That's how I did my railbuggy. My rear aux lights were my backup lights.
Just cut in a switch. They were mounted high in the cage so they could
be used as either. For the fan on the CJ I used a on/off/on toggle.
    High/off/Low. Works well.

Mike - don't know much about wiring and switches, but could you use two switches wired in series instead of one four position - on/off for power and on/on/on for speed control? :?

Probably...but that bumps me over the 5 that I have to work with.
