My stock heater.. well it sucks, just wanted to know if any of you guys had experience with these.. or one like it, and what you thought? Does it put out a good amount of heat, etc. Thanks

I'm using that same heater from 4Wheel Parts Hardware. It rocks. It practically melts my top. My business partner put the same one in his '70 Renegade. It uses hot water from the engine just like the original. Fairly easy install.

It's electric in the sense that it has a 3-speed fan, but it plumbs into your hot-water coolant system like any other heater. People here have also made approving noises about the Flex-A-Lite Mojave heater too. Here's some info, but I'm sure some of the usual 4wd parts dealers have them too. Do a search here for Mojave Heaters, been discussed a lot.

Do those things have a heater valve? I was gonna hunt around at work this weekend and see if we have a good heater core kicking around so I could make my own. Was thinking of putting a valve inline to limit the heat when I want to.

I've read here that you can get an in-line valve from (I think) a mid-60's Ford pickup that mounted to the fenderwell, those are cable-operated. Don't know if they're available new, but I'd imagine so.

I bought an inline valve for mine a Kragen/Checker auto parts. Gotta open the hood to shut it off though. It was pretty cheap too.

I have an inlive valve too, during the winter it's open during the summer its closed. I looked at the Mojave heater too, but I like the one mentioned because of the "moveable" driver/passenger heater duct. The louvers are on a seperate dash-mounted piece, instead of on the heater itself. Plus the defrost duct. I think I'm gonna go with it! Thanks for the input guys.

Grab the heater assembly while your under the hood. I installed an early Bronco heater box(P'ups of the same era are almost identical)under the passenger side dash. Fits perfectly, comes with defroster ducting, and melts the rubber off of your boots. While these early rigs are becoming harder to find, there are still out there. Most U pick yards will charge under 50 bucks for the whole assembly.

Unfortunatly, I can't. I am electronics poor, and don't own a digital camera. I will, however, try to find someone with one and post it. I can tell you the box fits under the dash on the right side. The heater hoses exit the cab under the battery box. The heater motor is inside. The floor duct is ove the passenger's feet and the box extends to the middle of the tunnel cover, with the drivers duct pointing at his feet. Two defroster ducts point straight up under the dash.

All this talk about heaters made me start thinking I need one! I seen this tread, then went out today and got a '72 ford van heater assembly. I'll try to post a pic when I'm done. Oh yeah, it was free! R)

This sounds alot like the AstroVan rear cabin heater I'm using...
Works well, 3-speed fan motor/blower enclosed in unit Plenty of heat and defrost, fits under the dash on the right (may need to sacrifice the glove box).
