i have a 1956 willys cj5 t90 trans. and 198 v6. after removing and then reinstalling transmission (due to broken clutch fork) there is a loud ticking noise coming from the bell housing. what could it be? could the clutch have been damaged during install? any info is apprecieated.

When you put it back together any problems (did you have to force any thing)? Other than the fork any other new parts? Does the Jeep shift OK other than the noise? When ever you assemble the trans to eng anything can happen. Look into the bellhousing, is the throwout bering and clips where they should be, tinkling noise might just be the throwout bearing/clips. If that looks OK than pressure plate might be the culprit. When ever I have the tranny off (which isn't often) I replace all parts that are questionable so I won't have to pull the assembly apart again.

after further investigation i found that the tin inspection cover was rubbing on the flywheel. i guess that was what those big washers were for. thanks anyhow

dohc281 It is what it is.

Having extra parts left over is never a good thing.
