Had the Jeep in the garage. Was running then just stopped. No sputtering, just like the key was turned off. Nothing I do will get it to run. Plenty of gas and a new battery.Plugs have less than 1000 miles on them. Checked for wires shorting out on something. :?

Will it crank but just not fire? Sounds like you might have loose or broken wire in the ignition circuit. Maybe a bad coil wire?

Check the basic 3 things you need for running. Fuel, spark and compression. Compression most likely did not go out all of a sudden unless you broke the timing gear. Getting fuel to the carb? If not check ingition system, see where spark stops, ie into the coil. out of coil, into distributor, out of the distributor, at the plugs.

Will the engine crank?, sounds like it does.

Pull a spark plug out and touch the threads to a good ground source, i.e. the head or manifold. crank the engine is there spark, if no
check the ingition circuit, power to coil. points did the gap lock down screw come loose? , coil wire, ohm it out

    If you have spark,
remove the fuel line going into the carb, put it in a jar and crank the engine. do you get fuel? if no check filter, then pump. if yes check carb float to see if needle valve stuck closed, or if debris has blocked fuel orifice.

other things can be checked after the basics are verified

before you take out a plug, pour just a tad of gas down the neck and try to start it. if it tries to run, its more than likely a fuel problem...if it doesnt, probably a spark issue. sounds to me a spark issue as stated before. maybe ignition wire came off, coil wire, something. points broke off?
do you have an electric fuel pump?

The suddeness of the engine stopping makes me think it's an electrical problem, and I'm afraid my Pertronix might have gone bad. I'm going to put the points back in and see if that works.

Got my engine to run today. Checked and found no spark at the plugs but there was spark coming from the coil. I removed the Pertonix and replaced with the points and bingo, it starts. Sending the old Pertronix to Summit were I bought it for a replacement, 30 month warrenty.
