What is the right size lift to run 32" MT's on a ECJ5...

Right now i am running stock with 31's and no rub. i would like the max amount of flex for my buck...

I have a buddy with a set of 2.5" rancho's W/O Shocks that he said he could sell for around 125.

i was also looking at the black diamond 3" kit with shocks for 479.99 from 4wd.com

that is alittle out of my budget but i would rather do it right the first time.

would just a 1" shackle lift do it for me? I don't want to rub on flex or full cut.

I grab the rancho springs from your buddy. That'll give you a good starting point. I have the 2.5" ProComp lift on mine with 33's.

    Cool,

what size shock should i get to run with the rancho's? new stock ones? that seems like it would limit them. also with a 2.5" will i need new brake lines or are the stock ones sufficient.

Your brake lines will be fine. You will have to get new shocks. I'd put the lift on, then measure from shock mount to shock mount at ride height. The shocks I used are the rears for a 50's Willys truck.

Just about all early Jeeps - including stockers - rub in the rear fenderwell area. It's no biggie - just scrubs the paint. To get around it you'll need wheels with different offsets or wheel spacers.

Had 2.5" (on Speedbuggy now) with 33s.
Going with the 3" Black Diamond now.
You should be fine with 2.5 and 32s.

    2.5 with 32's will work.

how rough will the 32 mud Terrains be with the manual ross steering? 31's aren't too bad...it actually feels like you control the Jeep. i was told 33's were max for the ross setup...and i will be running that for a while, or until i can save up for a conversion

no issues turning the 31's on mine........till you get in mud. just remember to keep your thumbs/fingers OUTSIDE the wheel with the ross box (it can/does 'kick')

yeah, my 31's slicks turn pretty easy...didn't know if the added size and aggressivness would roughen it up alot.

You'll be fine - I ran 32" BFG's for quite a few years with the Ross steering, even on trips out to UT and CO. Adding the PowrLok up front made it a bit tougher, but still manageable. Keep the stock bus wheel though - more leverage! ;)
