dash grab bar

I just got a new dash grab bar for my '56 from Walck's, but I'm not sure it's the right one. The box says "CJ '76-'86", and Walck's says it should be the same. The mounting holes on it are 17-1/8" center to center.

Can someone with an old Willys CJ5 measure their bar or the dash holes and tell me if it's right? I'd do it myself, but I'm at work right now, plus my tub is standing on the cowl against the wall and buried deep behind a bunch of crap in my garage...it'd be real hard to get to my dash.

I'd appreciate it!

Ron the grab bar on my '76 spare dash is indeed different than the other earlier versions. HTH

I get 17" hole to hole.

 

My 56 does not have any holes for a grab bar. My 65 has a grab bar with 17 1/8 holes.

 

Thanks Clay! No holes in the '56, huh? My holes should be the same as your '65 I'd think. I might just have to move a buncha crap and chase the cat out of the tub and see for myself.

 

My 67 didn't have a grab bar but the holes were in the dash for one. They seemed to be wider than a late model CJ. However the grab bar out of my 78 CJ-7 fit it just fine.

 

I guess it's kind of a moot point now, I dug my way through all of the crap in my garage to check out the fit on my dash, and my dash doesn't even have the holes in it!!! Must have been a dealer option or something, like the parking brake I don't have either, or the right side wiper.

So, now, can someone give me the measurements of the grab bar hole on the right side? As in, how far from the right edge of the dash and how far from the top edge? Not worried about the left hole, just the right.

Ron just went and looked at my '66/'67 and its 2 1/2" down and 11 3/4" over.
