Is this a decent deal?

OK, I can get backing plates, wheel cylinders, pads, all hardware and drums for 11" brakes (both front wheels) for $200. It's used, but supposedly good shape/usable.

I'm not a cheapskate, and I don't want to skimp on brakes, but I have to wonder if this is a worthwhile investment. Should I pounce, or keep looking?

    What say you guys?

I was thinking that was the case, they had the whole shebang, and won't part it out. All I wanted was the backing plates, but I have those from a different source, so no big loss.

They said something about the drums being finned, are the aftermarket replacements finned too? Does it really matter?

The drums were not finned.. they were smooth.. an old tail was this, It is to my understanding a long time ago if your brake drums were finned they would disspurse the heat better.. I look at it this way, it donesnt matter if they are adjusted right and dont ride the brakes...Take care

For $75 more you can get a kit from R&P with all NEW parts including new drums with powder coated backing plates. Of course you'd have to pay shipping.....

I was wondering who/where this R&P is. I want to do the 11" brake swap this spring. Do they have a website?

Best way to contact them is to call at 503-557-8911. They are a very small shop and have had computer issues for about the last year. I believe they've got the computer issues taken care of finally for e-mail and what not, but I'd still call as you will get your questions answered much better. Paul, the P in R&P, which stands for Rich & Paul, the guys that own the business, is an older guy who is very old school so computers aren't exactly his Forte. By the way, he's going to be gone from Thursday until Sunday down to Las Vegas. I'm going with him to Off-Road Impact, an off road show put on by SEMA. Paul is a very helpful guy and should be able to take care of you. Clint may be there Thursday and Friday to keep the shop open though so may be able to contact them then. Clint is a younger guy who knows the late model stuff real well but is learning the older stuff. He should be able to help with the brake's stuff though as he has done the conversion several times. Just noticed you are in Oregon. Not familiar with Douglas County though. R&P is located between Oregon City, OR and Canby, OR about 2 1/2 miles off of 99e. 99e follows the Willamette river and was the main north-south travel highway before I-5 was built. Oregon City and Canby is south of Portland. I'd say they are about 20-25 miles south of Portland. Nickmil.
