Nope, not if set up right. maybe a porta band but my band saw will cut thru a solid piece of 2"x4" material and be within .005 of parallel and square. Now chop saws will wander all over the place compared to that, even the best ones. Chop saws are good for tubing but compared to a band saw are totally useless for solid material of any thickness.
Oh and you can cut bricks and tile with a band saw you just need a carbide or diamond blade. I have cut bricks with mine before. Got a carbide blade that my dad bought when we had the shop and used it to cut brick.
Oh and to ever mentioned it above, band saws are not intended for sheet metal, if you can't keep 3 teeth engaged at all times it shouldn't be used, its very hard on the blades. The TSC saws are about $200

Lets put it this way: I own three band saws and one chop saw. I can't remember the last time I used the chop saw. I hate that thing. It makes a huge mess and shoots sparks all over the place. The horizontal band saw is great. Just like Ronco says.. just set it and forget it. I've one of those $200 import bands saws that I've had for YEARS. The portaband is a great tool too. The key is a GOOD blade. Get a quality Bi-metal variable pitch blade. It will cut straight and last a LONG LONG time.
