    Hi Guys,

Finally got around to putting the shims on the front springs to correct the caster angle. Need to know, FOR SURE, that the fat end of the shim goes to the front of the Jeep. Is this correct?

    Thanks.

the shims are to correct pinion angle and the fat end at the front will move the pinion up thus fixing pinion angle

but if you can getaway with not puting the shins in i would bacause of caster reasons the shims move the caster angle twords 0 and could make the steering not return or go as stright as it would stock

how much lift and have you driven it with the lift with no shims if so was there any ds vibration?

I have 0 and +1 and I should have -5 to -7. Does not drive straight. All over the road.

The fat end goes toward the front. Factory caster according to the service manual is suppose to be 3*-4*.

The fat end toward the front will tilt the pinion toward the ground not up.
The reason to put the shims with the fat in forward is to increase the caster so that it will return to center and not wander as much!!

Thanks Mike. I am putting in 6 degree shims as suggested in an earlier posting. I have a 4 in lift, which I think screwed everything up.

    This is on the '78.

silly question..but after seeing how much of the spring stud goes through the middle on my 2.5* shims, how much sticks through on 6* shims?

SOA or SUA? One will make it go one way, the other, the other way.

SUA I hope. He put on a 4 inch lift. Hate to have that plus SOA. Much too high.

Rubicon Express. I think they are in Orange County, CA. I'll have to check on my computer. On my son's Mac at the moment.
