I am beginning the process of installing swinging pedals in my 56. I was taking measurements when I noticed that my steering column is tilted to the side. With no dashboard installed, the point of the column is 16 1/4" from the outside of the tub. At the point where the column enters the box, just above the frame, this dimension is 17 3/4". Is this normal? I don't remember taking out any shims between the box and frame when I removed and installed the tub. Maybe some of you with the older model CJ5's could take these two measurements and let me know what they are. I would expect the column should be parallel with the long axis of the vehicle. Thanks for any help.

How about some of you other 56 owners? C'mon, it isn't that hard to measure. ;) Even with the fenders on. A straightedge along the side of the body works for a starting point. I have made a new dashboard, and I cut the notch for the column in the same location as the stock dash. I'm hoping I don't have to make a new one, since I lost my access to a brake to bend the edges.
