I have a 1974 CJ5,304 V8. I've replaced all electrical devises, new alternator, voltage regulator, battery, It still is not charging the system from the alternator. Does anyone have a diagram of how the wirring on the back of the alternator hooks up? Maybe I hooked it up wrong?:(

Welcome from KS! Where about you from?

As for the alternator, you mention a voltage regulator. In 1974 they alternators were all internally regulated AFAIK. If you have an external one as well perhaps that's the or an issue?

From Vernal,Utah. The Jeep has an external voltage regulator.

Just GMs that did away with external regulators in their alts in '68 or so and AMC still used 'em?

Guessing someone here can help since I only have questions. ;)

No - my '77 TSM shows the Delco only used on 6 cyls by '77. Shows Motorcraft for the V8s, which looks the same as the older Prestolites.

I think if you look at this '72 manual, it will be correct (at least for the charging circuit). http://www.c104.net/manual/Section_03.pdf

    red to bat
    green to fld
yellow splices in to fusible link on red at solenoid
I had to hook the sta post to a hot wire through the ignition to get it to work just make sure its only hot when the ignition is on or it will kill your battery hope that helps

On the back of the alternator I have two clip in connections, one clip goes inside the alternator, the other goes to a plate. the 12volt post, then there's three little post's. Also when the jeep is running I get a reading from the hot post of only 1.78 volts? Do you think the parts store sold me a bad alternator? or am I doing something wrong?

Not sure of this has anything to do with your problem, but I had to put a Diode on mine or the Jeep wouldn't shut off when I turned the key off.
