Was the 225 used in any other trucks besides Jeep? I'm asking for part searching reasons. If so, any HEI years?

The 225 never came with HEI as HEI did not come out until 1975 or early 76 long after the 225 was out of production for cars. You can use an HEI out of a 76-77 Buick appollo with an oddfire 231.

Got mine off of Ebay from a 231. The only thing I had to modify was the front driver side intake manifold bolt. I ground down the corner of the intake and put in a bolt with lower profile, and the larger HEI slid right in. Huge performance gains. Better cold starts, etc.

Ive located a distributor for a 77 Firebird w/ 231. I don't know if it is odd fire or evenfire, how do I tell on these. I know on my points dist the rotor has a wide tip compared to others. Are all of these oddfire dist like that? Also I see dist listed as having the module with it. What is this module? Is it in the dist or mounted outside somewhere? What does it look like?

the older oddfires used buick v-8 distributors with 2 caps covered up. the inside had a couple of longer looking metal runners. the even fire has 6, evenly spaced plug wire holes on top. i dont know about the newer ones, but on the 77's and earlier, it should look like a v-8 cap minus 2 plugs on top (atleast the HEI does).

Huh? So you are telling me they are an 8 Cyl distributor with only 6 actual posts and 2 blanks? Are all of the oddfire HEI dists like this? Any pictures I can look at?

if you take off the dist cap and rotor. look at the shft under the advance weights. you see some pointed lobes. if it's an odd fire it will have three. make sure your looking at the rotating shaft and not the pickup.

if it has more it's an even fire. but there is a thread here or somewhere that tells how to convert and even fire to an odd fire by grinding off the extra lobes.

as far as the cap is concerned, go to the napa parts online catalogue and search for a 1976 buick 231 v6 for a skylark (just to keep the search simple). and bring up the entry for the hei distrib cap. ( about $19) and look at the picture. you'll see what phalanxx is discribing. four evenly spaced poles and two that are kind of a pair off by them selve next to each other.

Can you use a Buick V8 HEI evenfire dist by replacing the cap, rotor, and pickup? I've heard you can do this with a V6 evenfie but is a V8 the same thing? Module the same? All other parts the same?

Pickup coil and the points on the shaft that contact it would be off I'd think using a V8 in an EF or OF.

I have an Accel supercoil installed for the Delco points dist. If I installed the Pertronix w/ this, would it work as well as having an HEI? What plug gap would I use?

I just rebuilt my 225 and got rid of the points and went to HEI. You can order online and it is huge. you have to shave the left front bolt on the intake, but it fits.
