Does anybody have any good photos of an ECJ5 with a fold-out windshield? I know I've seen some here, but I don't seem to have copied any to my Jeep photo stash.

    Thanks!

So, how desirable are these things? Working on an even trade for my '56 windshield.

Around here...highly desireable. Very cool feature.

If you're over 5' 10" -ish, you might have trouble with seeing out, as the fold out frame means the glass is shorter yet.

For me - for that and better wipers - the intermediate w/s was much more desireable.

I'm short and fat, so that won't be a problem for me. The current owner is quite tall, so trading will be an advantage for both of us.

Scotts, (60cj5) is probably the nicest you'll find around here.

Thanks Mike! THOSE are the photos I've been looking for! Got 'em saved now.

The w/s I'm looking at doesn't have the split in the middle, it's one-piece glass.

OK, It's not often that I have to ask dumb questions, but what is the advantage of having a flip out windshield? I imagine that not having the glass there may help some visibility issues, but then, so would putting the windshield down. I also suppose that it's a boon for those who prefer bugs in their teeth... :D

Seriously though, all the advantages I can think of are small or easily duplicated. Can anyone give me a big advantage to it?

In my case, a large enhancement of the "cool factor". Plus the option for better ventilation when the soft top is on? I've also read here, on an old thread, that these were designed to let positive air pressure into the cabin to help keep dust from coming in the rear on dirt roads. I think it was Steverdenver that knew a lot about them in that thread.

x2 on the cool factor. Aside from that, I got nothin. First thing I do when I hit the dirt is drop the windshield anyway. Only way to fly, baby.

Ever notice while driving with the top off that the wind seems to hit you in the *back* of the head? Ventilating windshields were intended for dusty areas, opening the windshield a bit breaks the vacume behind it that tends to suck dust/bugs/empty beer cans/furry little bunnies into the front seat area. Most vehicles from back in the days before pavement became prevalent had simular setups, think "Model T" fer instance.

the flip out has ALL the cool any one man can handle, people around here freak all the time when they see it. but it trully shines on the gravel roads. i close al the windows and crack the windshield and the dust inside is drasticaly reduced.

In many states you cannot drive on the road w/ the windshield down.

Thanks!! I think of it as early A/C. When I get the hardtop done, I think it will be nice with the w/s and the back windows open.
