RPM's.....Whose got a tach???, not to mention a GPS...come on guys, get real...this member is a student. I remember (yes...it was 30 + years ago) when I went on a date we hit Mickey D's or Arbys. And that was only if I had a kupun (just for all you Ron White fans). Now I am pushing 50 REAL FAST, & still don't have a tach or a GPS.

What's your secret? Mine is a 80 CJ-5 with 4.10 gears, 258 with DUI distributor and 32" tires. I've been getting 12-13 MPG.

Headers ...dual exhaust w/low back pressure little mufflers, and a gentle habit of aceleration.

I just got a carb from O'Reillys (304 V8) for $124. Lt Blue smoke sounds like you're burning oil.

In 4 wheel drive catalog there is an ad for a "swirler" you place inside the air filter. Claims to move the air better...better combustion...better gas mileage, etc.. No personal experience with it.

    Pete, I think it's probably 3.54s, not 5.38s. Your year/model came with either 3.54 or 4.10 ratio.

True that driving habits make all the difference. Can't emphasize that enough.

Dana, forget the swirly thing. Snake oil IMO.

Re the accuracy of the speedometer, IF the speedometer was accurate with the stock tire height, you can find your actual speed from the ratio of the tire heights. No fancy algebra is needed. Say the stock tires were 28" and the new tires are 33" tall,

    65 mph (reading now) * 33"/28" = 76.6 mph

If you have Excel handy, you can make a table of corrections. However, a rough adjustment is all you really need. In this case, 35mph is actually 40, 45 is actually 52, 60 is actually 70, etc. The odometer works the same way: 250 miles is actually 250*33/28 = 294 miles.
