Ok so I decided to get up some energy and reseal my rear end. I drain the oil and take off the diff. cover, and now im stuck I tried pulling the spider gear pin out but it runs into the ring gear. Is there a special way to get the axles out? If so please let me know, same with if there is secret ways to save me some time. Thanks mike

on my 44 you have to pull off the axle flange with a puller then undo the bolts on the brake backing plate and just pull out the axle

I highly recommend purchasing a FSM before jumping into stuff like this. Do a search here and you can find a source(s) for them.

The Dana 44 on the 74 is very easy to pull the axles.

    remove the rear drums.
you will see a hole in the flange.
line this hole up with each of the 6 nuts on the backing plate and remove them.
    pull the shaft out.
You do not even have to remove the brake assembly to do it.

There is no reason to remove the spiders. The axles are a semi-floating design where the mounting flange and a pressed on bearing hold the axle in place.
