Newbie here. I just bought a 73 CJ-5 and would like to put this lift on it.

72-75 CJ5, CJ6, DJ5, 4WD/2WD 2.5" Lift includes; Front and Rear Leaf Springs, Front and Rear U bolt Brackets, Bushing Pack, Grade 8 Hardware Throughout, 4 ES3000 Shocks
    EXPK3069

Delivered it's $420.28, sounds like a good deal. Is this pretty easy to install and is this a good price for this Pro Comp lift?

    Thanks

Good price for a lift with the shocks included.

Project is straight forward, unless you are replacing the bushings and shackles. The effort of removing the old bushings is quite intense. I'd invest in an air chisel...

Thanks for the reply. I thought that sounded like a good deal.
http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/index.asp Is where I found it, they have free shipping and 15% off Pro Comp. I probably will do the bushings and shackles, I'm shooting for 33" 12.50 on a 15X8 rim. I hope my frame can handle it, I've found some interestion patches.

I'm getting rid of my Pro Comp 2 1/2" lift. The front springs never worked very well for me. As for the frame, its not very stout and if you plan on wheeling expect cracks and breaks unless you box in the frame.

Cracks at the junction of the frame and the front crossmember seem to be common from '72-74. The '75 is said to have thicker frame steel, but they may crack also. Earlier Jeeps have frame crack problems too, but in different places.

For a lift, the concensus here seems to be BDS springs from Bob Supplee. Good flex, good price, shipped to your door. This topic is covered again and again and again here ... do a search and you'll get more hits than you care to read.

The Pro Comp lift is a decent lift.
I sold mine to Speedbuggy because I wanted a taller more flexy set.

I was looking at the cost for a complete lift it seemed like a good choice. My Jeep is not a daily driver more like a weekend hobby. It probably won't see any hard 4wheeling moderate trails and washes. I have two old Broncos for the serious wheeling. Regarding the Broncos I have a NP435 with adaptor for a d20, are the d20 in the Jeep the same as the d20 in the Bronco? Will this trans and adaptor work in the Jeep?

Thanks for all the information so far.

I belong to a Jeep club and get 10% at 4wheel parts, and thats after price matching any lower price I find elsewhere... check with your local clubs to see if they have a similiar arrangement. Just a 2.5" might not clear 33" without rubbing... a 4" is probably more realistic.

I had thought that 33s will clear with no lift. Don't use any more lift than you need, if you want to keep the rubber side down.

No. A couple of issues on the Bronco 20. One, the bolt pattern, shifter, gearing, etc. are all different. The gearing in the Bronco is better than the Jeep 20 though. The biggest problem is the left hand front output on the Bronco 20. Jeep uses a right hand front output which means if you put it in you will need a front axle with a left hand pumpking vs. the right hand pumpkin you should have now.
The Ford NP 435 can be made to work easily if you have a Ford or AMC motor currently. With the AMC motor all you need is the bellhousing and clutch from a '76 and newer CJ and a pilot bushing for the AMC motor that has been machined to fit the ford pilot. The biggest problem with the combination you have is the length issue. As I recall the adapter between the NP 435 and Bronco 20 is quite long and if putting in a CJ-5 can create serious driveline length and angle issues. Most people who use an NP 435 try to get the absolute shortest adapter between trans and transfer as possible for this reason. I'd get out the tape measure before you go any further. Nickmil.

I've been reading up on the lifts in anticipation, and I think it was Black Diamond that stated their 4" will clear 33"s. I guess some of it depends on what the lift really lifts at and what the actual tire diameter is, but 2.5" just sounds small for 33"s unless there is a body lift or cutting. Not having placed a lift on a CJ-5 yet, I'm certainly not an expert but I'd check with the lift manufacturer to be sure rather than spend the money and time and find out they don't clear at compression.

How about longer shackles to clear the 33's? I don't really like the look of body lifts, and with the small wheel base I don't want to go any taller than I have to.

Go with the M.O.R.E. 3/4" lift shackles and you will be very happy with the set-up. $75 a pair through 4wd.com

I read about some that had mounts for a tow bar, does anyone know who makes these and do the work for a 73?
