    Hey Guys,

I'm looking into getting my steel wheels sandblasted and powdercoated. Has anybody ever had this procedure done to their wheels? What was the price range? Thanks

I had my Bantam trailer wheels done (same as CJ5 wheels). It cost me $35 per wheel for blasting/coating. That is probably as cheap as it gets, considering other places wanted as much as $30 per wheel to just sandblast.

Powdercoating wasn't stock. Moved for that reason. ;)

:iagree: The quotes I've gotten are basically the same, some are realistic and reasonable, some places think they're goldplating the wheels for you.

Having done some powder coating at home (not professional mind you...) I can say that you need to approach the cheaper prices with caution. You can look at powdercoating like painting. Any place that looks dusty and messy probably isn't likely to give perfect results. This isn't to say that you won't get a good job at a low price, but be sure the reason that the prices are low is because the place is professional and well set up to do items like wheels efficiently. It's also likely to get a good deal from a home based coater who is willing to do great work cheaply for the word of mouth. Again, if he's not organized and the place is dusty/messy, you may want to pass.

    In summary, shop wisely!

I had mine done for $45 a rim. That was 8 years ago and they are just now begining to show wear.

I got a quote from one company for 35 a rim. I got another price for 87 a rim. I have heard good things about both companys. I'm not willing to pay 87 for powdercoating and the 87 was with the color white. They said that any color other than white black or grey will be more. These are estimates on white.

Right off I-20 if you ever go to DFW. Just illustrating that the costs vary. This guy does very good work and is reasonable, not everyone is. another option might be to get together with some others that need rims or somethnig else powdercoated the same color and batch it together. Lots of these guys base the price on setting up an oven for something, sometimes the more stuff, the less $$ per piece.
