My daughter, who will be driving the CJ when she is old enough really likes lime green for the color scheme. I have seen a couple of posts of lime green CJ's and it seems like that might have even been a stock color choice at one time. My question is what is the best way to go about getting it painted? Are there any rattle can options nowadays? I have heard of a service where you can order specific automotive quality paint in specific colors from somewhere but dont' remember the specifics. Also, if anyone has any pics of lime green CJ's and can post them that would be great.

Don't know about about the paint, but my 75 has a lime green coat under the dark blue it is painted now. The vin tag is gone so I can't get numbers for you.

The problem with all spray cans is that they contain no hardener. Real automotive paint is mixed with hardener at spray time, and has a short "open" time.

The Renegade II had a nice lime green - look here. http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/general/Renegade/index.shtml Or else browse colors at autocolorlibrary.com

Thanks. I got the color code from autocolorlibrary.com and am checking with NAPA to see if they can do the spray cans. They will be able to find out on Monday and I will post my success or failure.

Just wanted to mention an option for you..........the Preval Sprayer

You can find these for about 3 to 4 bucks at hardware stores, and recently Home Depot started carrying them. Its a glass six ounce jar with a screw-on pressurized unit and spray valve. By using the Preval you can mix paint/reducer and hardener for great results. Most of my little projects have been with the Preval and it does a good job. Usually two coats are required but its ready to go the next day.

BTW the best ratio I have found for the Preval is 1 part acrylic enamel paint to 1 part reducer and a teaspoon of hardner. Works well and gives a very hard finish. See link below:

Here's a good source for inexpensive auto paint, especially if you're considering painting it yourself. Lime Green is a standard color.

FWIW I tried the Harbor Freight cheapie version and had terrible results - it just didn't atomize the paint into small enough particles.
