The V6 is a good engine, but so is the AMC inline 6. There's not a great deal of difference between them in terms of performance. Why swap?

The T-150 is a Ford pattern transmission. Here's an adapter that can be used with the GM bellhousing: http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_g150.htm

the straight six isnt doing to good so i am considering a swap??
I guess a rebuild would be another option.
    what do you guys think?
is there a different motor i should consider?

You are going to spend a certain amount of money on this.

At the end of the spending you will have the correct, rebuilt straight six engine, or a used V-6.

I personally would opt for the straight 6 rebuilt over a used v-6 engine.

    you asked.....

I agree. An AMC V8 is a pretty straight forward swap. Find a 360 from a FSJ and drop it in.

I would build the inline 6 if it was mine. Or you could do the AMC V8 swap, but I am just partial to the inline 6's.

I believe a better option than swapping to a v8 would be to build the i6. The 304 v8s numbers weren't much better than the v6 225 and a sbc just makes you another clone. Stroke that i6 do a 4.0 head swap and efi and you'll have torque enough to jerk your head off, great trail manners, and just as much hp as most of the sbc guys, as well as, a lighter front end and the ability to idle through stuff the sbc guys would drool over.:v6:

Here's a stroker rotating assembly kit. 4.0L heads and EFI can be got at a salvage. http://www.rpmmachine.com/amc-stroker-kit-4l.shtml
Google "stroker jeep" and you'll get lots of info. IIRC the 4.2L and the 4.0L have the same block. Others will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.:v6:
