I have a fender on my Jeep that is fiberglass and unpainted. The rest of my Jeep is painted. Although not a show Jeep it is in good enough shape paint wise, i.e. it is not getting another paint job for a long time. I want to paint the fender to match the Jeep and figure I will just use rattle cans. Any particular paints better then others? Also any of those attachements that attach to the spray can (paint gun attachement) helpful in making the final product look better??? I painted my mirror hardware with rustoleum spray paint 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of gloss black, 2 coats of clear coat and it flakes of just by looking at it. I want to avoid this if possible. Any help much appreciated!!

In my opinion, Duplicolor is the best paint spray can wise. The nozzle on most of their paints is made to spray a fan like a regular paint gun, only a little smaller, so you dont have as much trouble with getting one good color without stripes in it. I have painted entire trucks with it always looks pretty good.

If the paint is flaking off all the way down including the primer, you may have had something on the part that is not allowing the primer to stick. If the primer is left you may have mixed different paints causing them to separate. I always buy a better quaility paint ( not by price ) and shoot the paint on in several light coats letting them each 'flash off' a few minutes between coats.

As far as rattle cans go, Duplicolor is the best. If yours is a stock color you should be able to get a match. For fiberglass I would use a good prep wipe, etching primer followed by a primer filler, 400 wet sand smooth, then color coat and clear coat. Duplicolor has them all, don't mix in an odd paint. Don't waste your money on attachments. Most are junk and can slip off the nozzle at an inopportune time (they are made for ergonomics anyway, they do nothing for the spray).:v6:

Ok guys thanks. The paint was flaking off down to the primer. The primer however adheared nicely. Is Duplicolor available at FLAPS?

Duplicolor is available at Walmart. Probably better selection at a FLAPS or Lowes/Home Depot.

FWIW SSDutch came rattle-canned in a Duplicolor white, so I used to also paint the tailgate and rear corners.

I didn't have great luck with it - it might have been the prep, but it was hard to get it to get any kind of glossy finish. It seemed like the distance from gloss to runs was much shorter than other paints I've used.

Expensive too - a good $2/can more than other paints I buy, at least as purchased at AZ.
