two pumps?

hey guys just started really driving my cj a lot this summer .in the winter when i would pull it out of storage for tuneup and prep for summer i always heard what i thought was electric fuel pump lately i have not heard it when i turn on key .my friend told me some jeeps had two pumps .any of you know about this ?maybe i should not venture to far from home .not having any problems when i let her sit a week or so shes hard to start but after that shes fine .wonder if my wife has two fuel pumps to having same problem with her?R)
