A search yielded no hits. I'm dropping a locker in the rear of the '75 and my Chilton does not list specs for the 44. I'm having to pull the ring gear to get the pinion shaft out so I need the ring gear and carrier bearing specs if anyone has them available.

If I recall correctly..... ring gear bolts are 55 ft/lbs. Carrier bearing caps are 70 -80 ft/lbs.

Better have someone confirm that, I don't trust my memory these days...

I did a search for "Ring Gear Torque"
(I knew we had discussed this before)

From the list of hits, I selected this thread:
    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14179&highlight=ring+gear+torque

Of particular interest in this thread is information from Jim, the source of all printed Jeep knowledge :D :

ring gear bolts - 35-55 ft lbs
powerloc case halve bolts - 35-45 ft lbs
    diff bearing caps - D44 - 70-90 ft lbs

    HTH

The manual gives different values for set-to and recheck torques. The values I gave were set-to. Recheck is 45-65 and 70-90 resp.

After pulling the case and removing the spiders on the bench, I clearly see it is a TracLoc LSD. I ordered the wrong locker as I thought it was an open carrier until I spotted the clutches hiding BEHIND the spiders.

Are the torque specs the same for both the Open and LSD carriers? My manual has no mention of a Dana 44 LSD.

Torques are the same whether limited slip or open carrier. I wouldn't even fool around with a Trac Lok. They're not very effective and clutch plate life is poor. Return it and get a Power Lok or locker.
