Hello, I'm a new CJ owner. I haven't really searched the forums but does anyone know what I can do to swap the jeep over to electronic ignition? Thanks.

There are a bunch of threads at the bottom of the page to look at.

Do you want a junkyard/scrounged system or to buy it new?

Much depends on your engine. You list a '72, but a Buick V6. Is one or the other incorrect, or did someone actually swap a Buick V6 into a '72?

If it IS the Buick V6... 225 or 231? The 231 will accept HEI, most came with it. The 225 will accept HEI as well, with some mods (grinding of the manifold bolt/manifold bolt hole). Also, the 225 with the Delco distributor will accept a Pertronix Ignitor module easily. The Prestolite distributor will not.
If it's a factory '72 engine, then your options will be different...

If you go that route, you will need to remove your old distributor, put this one in, change the spark plug wires, run one wire to your ignition switch and one wire to your tach (if you have a tach).

    The power difference was suprising.

I am new to Early CJ but I will reply to this post since I have just converted my 74 CJ from points. All I had to do was go to a local parts house and buy Pertronix part # 1181 to convert my AC Delco distributor on my AMC 304 to pointless ignition. Two wire hook up and it cranked right up and ran a whole lot better.

Sorry it took me a while to respond. I'm looking for something cheap and effective, new or used. I have a 72 CJ5 that the PO put the buick v6 in, bored to 235.
