Sorry about misspelling exhaust. Anyway...I need to replace the exhaust on my '79. I can get a complete factory replacement exhaust system from them for roughly $150 including the front Y-pipe. Does anyone think I'm crazy to go stock? Should I go with duals? It would obviously cost more, and I'm not climbing any mountains in Michigan so my stock 304 has more than enough ponies. I will probably upgrade the muffler though. Anyone have recommendations on that? I don't want anything too loud since this will be a trail / hunting machine and I don't want to scare the crap out of bambi.......Thanks. Oh yeah, is there any reason to suspect I don't have a T-150? The Y-pipe only works with this combo. How can I visually confirm this?

A complete factory exhaust with Y pipe, cat and muffler for $150? For your needs that system should work fine.

I live in Michigan. We don't have emissions or safety testing and since the vehicle was available without a cat, I don't need to replace it!

Casting numbers for the T-150 are here http://www.jeeptech.com/wiki/index.php/Transmission/Factory/T-150

None of the other Jeep transmissions are a direct replacement for the T-150, so I wouldn't worry if it's a 3-speed.

If you do the installation yourself, use double hangers and clamps. Rotate the clamps 90 degrees to each other. If you have a welder, put extra weld around the stubs where they enter the muffler. Maybe not such a problem in MI, but the exhaust (with an h :) ) gets banged around in rocky terrain.

John, I wouldn’t replace the cat if I didn’t need too but all 79 CJs came from the factory with a cat.

I had a custom exhaust bent for me from the collector back for $95 in Salem, Ohio, (Only a single pipe system), for a 258.

I went to a local shop, and not a chain place...
