I need to replace my alternator, is the standard 'over the counter' model alright? I believe it's a Delco that my local parts store carries. They carry a 'with' and 'without' A/C. I don't have A/C. Should I grab the 'with' A/C? I'm assuming it will provide more juice for lights and other accessories................ I told everyone I would ask alot of questions!

the higher the amps the better
I use a 63 amp, but I believe now you can get higher than that

If I recall the with AC has a two groove pully instead of a single groove for non AC. I could be wrong though.
Have them find the highest amp rating they can though.

Make sure your wiring is sufficient for the extra current.

Unless you've added accessories that require the higher current, a bigger alternator is a waste of money. 65 amps is plenty big enough to support a winch, a couple off road lights, and a mid range audio system. The basic CJ electrical system will survive just fine on 45 amps.

I have a 30A and it works fine even with a plow pump running 1/4 of the time when plowing and it will still keep up.

The Delco alternators are modular and really easy to rebuild. I know that Standard used to offer all the electrical parts and the bearings, and they should be easy to find. Your FSM has instructions on dis-and-reassembly.

But the prices for the components have gone up so much it's not worth doing :( I used to rebuild all my own alternators, it costs about 50% more to rebuild your own than a good Napa Gold alternator costs now.

Sweet!!! Thanks for all the feedback. I will contact the store and find out what the output is on the standard ($39.99) and make the call at that point.
