Well, I guess I tried just a little too hard to back out the rusted in place bolt for the air tube (emissions) on my 304 exhaust manifold.

I broke two small pieces off the manifold where the bolt is on the side. Unfortunately, it's either trash now, or I have to fix it. My question is, is this weldable?

Get another one. Try the FSJ boards such as http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/ or your local Jeepin' boards. They aren't rare, and even if you pay a premium for a replacement, it'll be cheaper than having it welded.

Welding or brazing cast iron is possible, but AFAIK it requires special rod and a lot of preheating and slow cooling.

Thanks Tim. I've heard that it is difficult to weld cast iron correctly. Live an learn I guess.

I'll be looking for a driver side exhaust manifold.

My experience with cast iron is that if there is any amount of stress on the welded area it will break again. Places like manifold ears, bell housings and the like are not usually good candidates for repair. There are places that can do repairs to an engine block, or a hard-to-replace cylinder head, but even then it is usually limited to an area that won't see the stress of a bolt/stud being torqued down near it.
