I notice the owners manual for '55 shows the foot rest nubbin by the gas pedal that the M38s had. I don't have one. Any other 55s out there that do? Howard, I believe you said you didn't either.

Nope, I don't. While the owners manual does show it it isn't actually labeled as such. I believe that drawing is based on one of the pre-production prototypes, i.e. as you've noted before on the cover illustration the side panel sez "WILLYS", not "JEEP". Theres also the "mystery" panel on the passenger side kick plate that appears to be a hold over from the early model M38A1 heater but isn't to be found on a production model, at least after s/n 377.

FWIW my '59 parts manual uses the exact same drawing except the foot rest isn't there, nor can I find a parts listing for it on a 5 or 6 although they did apparently come on 3Bs- PN 641922. I don't think these ever made it to production, Willys probably saved a whole $.05 per unit leaving them off :).

For anybody wondering what-in-hell were talking about its the little doey showing up just to the right of the gas pedal between the tranny & xfer case shift canes in the pic below-

What I find interesting (IIRC, I'll have to double check) is isn't the weld-on nut for the tranny cover at that location a 5/16" vs a 1/4" on all the other holes? The only obvious reason for that is the little nubbing thingie.....

Jim, what year is your parts manual? Mine's a '59 & group 12-08 is "Accelerator & Linkage", that part# isn't showing up either there or in the PN list in the back of the book :? That is where I did find the 641922 number though- right below #650484 "Pin, accelerator treadle hinge". Does the foot rest show up in the group 31 "Front Compartment" illustration ? (no. 78 in my book) Not there in mine-

    I have 2 books
the oldest is March of 71
    the newest is Jan 80
the 800783 appears in both with description indicated
I suppose the earlier part number for flatties was maybe superceded by the later number ?
just a guess on my part

I also looked in the group you suggested, body sheet metal, attaching parts, etc etc
I only find it listed with the pedal and linkage, and no pic

O.K., Time to call in Scooby Doo & The Gang 'cause we got us a Mystery!

I double checked my book, the 800783 # definatly isn't there & the 641922 part only gets listed for the 3B.

Anybody out there actually have a foot rest in your machine???

    my flattie came with one:D
    I like a good mystery !

    from the book
    X = F4, number 1 = qty used for each model, 3B/5/6/ etc

I always assumed heel rest for foot starter
not foot rest for acc pedal

I was just able to confirm that the 641922 does indeed change to 800783

in the later books it's listed in 4.040-13

    O.K.- I'll see your parts manual page (1st column 3b, 2nd 5, 3rd 6)

    & raise you a floor diagram -

Notice this is, as stated previously, the same drawing as used in the owners manual except they took an eraser to the foot rest:rofl:

My recommendation is to find a 5 with the factory installed foot rest, aquire it, duct tape CEEJAY into it & push it over a cliff, that should hopefully put a rest to this

You guys have just lucked on to one of the most mysterious & hard to find parts for older jeeps . . . . I had to go through 10 donor jeeps before I finally found one for my '47 . . . . and I can vouch for it, it actually is very handy for resting the right side of your foot on. Occasionally one comes up on Ebay for too much . . . haven't seen one listed for sale on any reproduction parts lists, but didn't pursue it too hard once I found an original.

DeBella recently came out with an exact reproduction. Yes Thad, the threaded hole is larger, and Howard Buddy, thanks so much for spending all the time I didn't want to spend. I owe you one! ...... oh wait, you owe me one ...... oh helll, ......we're even! Howard, have you ever considered stand-up comedy? Don't you think it is strange that they removed the nasty nubbin but left the bolt-in panel on the passenger floor? I am like Nancy Drew! ...... oh nevermind. I re-raise a "grab bar" or whatever it was never called or listed until the '80s or so. Looks like we have created a new game: JEEP PART POKER.

Master cylinder service port and transfer case shift shaft service port, respectively. :) Unless you are talking about the big panel on the passenger floor shown in Howard's picture. Then, I would guess it was a leftover from the M38A1 for charging system maintenance?
