Here is a thread to the CJ2A site with a history of them and how to decipher the numbers:
    http://www.thecj2apage.com/history.html

I would say the 217424 is the serial # and the 207282 is the ACM # (body number - usually about 10000 less than the serial number.)

Okay ..the serial ## on the title is CJ2A 217424 ...

Tag on passenger fire-wall BODY # is 207282

ALSO Tag above the body tag is # CJ2A 217424

I might have mis-lead a few of you I also found a number on the engin above the water pump on the boss as it is called ..It is approx.1/2 inch wide by approx..3 inches long it is stamped J241835..... This number is used on military Jeep M-Models to identify the engine and model ..

The one listed as the serial number is the serial number. The early CJ2A jeeps had a matching serial number and body number tag. There is also an ACM, American Central Manufacturing, number on the drivers side toe board gusset. Not sure if this continued once Willys took the manufacture of jeep bodies "in house" This should match the tailgate number but I've seen them off by a few before.
There is also a serial number tag behind the front bumper on the inside of the drivers side frame rail.

Number tag on the frame is gone only thing left is two brass rivets or ? they used to mount them..Looked hard on the floor board also gone..Funny thing is the title says it is a 1946 .. Everything I have found seems to be of a 1946 model as far as the parts go ..This is why I asked for a little help figured I was missing something..Got to go with what the experence tell me from you guys and girls out there..I am more into the military end of things but girlfriend like the early cjs.. Once again out-voted by female ....

The toe board gusset is in the engine compartment. The wiring harness usually goes over the number and it's stamped directly into the body's toe board gusset, same as on the tailgate. I don't know when or if this stopped as it may have coincided w/ the taking of body manufacture in house, which your jeep seems to have.
