Manufacturer for Outboard Spring Hangers?

I have looked, but haven't found the answer to this. Does anyone actually manufacture Spring Hangers in order to outboard the springs and use larger axels such as D44's from a Wagoneer on a Flatfender? I saw Tim Harris' set up on the forums and liked what I saw. (so did everyone else!).

I will be honest. I don't own a flatfender yet, but my uncle has three in pieces in his barn (which he won't part with). I am on a hunt for one. I have been researching how to build one and was wondering about the Outboard spring hangers.

Thanks for letting a newbie ask questions.

Only ones I have ever seen were fabed by the owner or buddy.

Welcome - please fill out your profile - you never know, there maybe a flattie close to you :)

I do believe there are companies that sell "full width axle conversions" never seen one in person, I just fabbed my own. Do a search on it, may be worth looking into if your not making your own.

Like everyone else has said, it seems like there was somebody somewhere that offered a kit, but most of the ones I have done, and the ones I have seen done, we did ourselves. It's not much trouble to do, especially if you have someone's you can look at to get ideas from.

I believe that it is a nicer job if you keep the springs under the frames.

I built mine. i think it is blue torch that makes the kit. not hard to make own if you have a welder and torch

It is a nicer job, and I am getting into stock Jeeps more now anyway, but when you go to big axles, it is pretty much a must to outboard the springs.

I guess if people have money burning a hole in the wallet...they could use that handy dandy search button on google to get you hooked up with Poison Spyder, Blue Torch, or any other fab type shop. Those places sell a multitude of full width conversion kits...for the right price I'd bet they'd chop down a CJ or YJ kit to fit a Flattie frame and whatever axle you wanna stuff under it.

You can keep them under the frame rails often by changing the length of the short side, avoiding both sides. I happened to do both sides when I swapped in a hp44 and kept the springs under the frames. Very often people are halfway to completing the job when they reset the caster anyway. I guess it is personal preference.

FC-150's, 1958 and later, have out board spring mounts on what is otherwise a CJ-5 frame. I wonder if you can just transfer, with a few modifications, your body and fenders to the FC frame. You'll get the wider and strong axles with 5:38 gears. Just a thought.

NickMil just mentioned that exact thing in another thread - said it used to be the hot setup for race Jeeps.

Are there that many FC frames out there? That would be awesome if so. You know I read buildup like that recently. Let me see if I can find it.

There are lots of FC's out there with rusted bodies beyond repair. I've got three of them for parts I'll probably never use.

That thing was built/ rebuilt into a rock crawler / used for a season or two / sold off at least 2 years ago...

If the site / writeup is unfinished, it's because the author had a falling out with the site.
