These look straight forward to make, just some bent heavy duty pipe. Am I missing something, why are they $400 for front and back??? Has anyone every tried to make these?? ALso is it possoble to make the dissconecting type if you do it yourself, maybe use a little bit bigger section of pipe and slip it over and then pin it??? Or is it all to complicated, just spend the money, seems weird thought bought the whole jeep for $500.

They are not pipe, they are made of steel tempered similar to torsion bars, they are essentially a spring. If you make them out of pipe someone will get hurt when they fail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mikes right. Basicly a spring connected to the frame and each end of the axle.

Nope different. Shocks only limit the osolations that springs have they do in turn limit roll to some extent but thats not why they are there. While a swaybar does nothing but as a vehical leans it puts tension onto the low side thus reducing roll. Clear as mud?

Maybe Mike can explain it better. But in short no they do very different jobs.

Jeepster C101's have a sway bar on a D27 front end. Should be able to use the brackets and parts from that.

I don't see why you couldn't make the quick disconects. I have a CJ7 sway bar that I am going to put on green jeep. I am liking the looks of the TJ bars and will be looking at that before I put one on. I think front and rear is over kill for a jeep. Maybe on a sports car...

Uhhh I thought sway bars were an aid to Cars with suspensions ment to ease travel by lessening the effects of uneven road surfaces. A camaro with a normal passenger car suspension setup will roll a lot when under hard cornering loads, this will in turn put more pressure on the outside tire, which will cause it to deform and the tread to be rolled to the inside of the turn, this in turn can lead to a lose of Traction on the outside tire at the same time the inside tire is losing traction because the body roll is lifting it away from the pavement. The sway bars limit the lateral differential spring travel by tying the suspension together and limiting ( torsionallly) the body roll.
Off road, limiting lateral spring differential travel is counter intuitive.
Lift kits, spring overs, 32 inch tires all give better ground clearence for the body, and tend to increase body/suspension articulation, the very thing in a lateral sense sway bars exist to combat. Jeeps were renown for offroad travel, and a propensity for roll overs on the New Fangled clover leafs of the high speed highways in the 60's.
If you want a track hugging high G pad scoring Jeep, weld the axle tubes to the frame where the bump stops are and get some of those really skinny tires about 3 inches tall with really sticky rubber and go tear up the track.
Just wondering, maybe desert racers would like the setup. Sway bars on a normal jeep. Kinda like the lockers discussion, what is the purpose. Off road or on road, straight line traction or cornering. Pays your money takes your chances.:coffee:
