I just got a free 110V century Mig welder. The guy was tossing it and so I snagged it. I know this is not a great welder, I have the 220V version and it is OK but not great. The problem is one of the diodes in the rectifier is shorted. I was wondering if anyone might know where to get just the diode?? I can get the whole rectifier through Lincoln, but I dont want to spend the $87 on a cheap welder. I was thinking about giving it to my brother in law anyway. The diode has no numbers, so I cant check DIGIKEY, the diode is about half the diameter of a dime and about 1/4 inch thick. I could take a pic, but I figured you all might just have a junk or parts welder sitting around. It looks like the diodes for the 220V are the same as the 110V.

    Thanks all

Mouser electronics will probably stock it.

You're only dealing with 60 cycles here @ well under 100 volts, that ain't'a nothin fancy. I'd take the output rating, double it for fun & try to find something in the same form factor from Digkey/Mouser/Whoever. Only thing to watch for is if they're using a "revesed" anode-cathode configuration on one unit, should be mark3ed on the case.

Do you mean the output rating of the diode or the welder? The diode is definately nothing special, but there is no markings or it at all. When I check the resistance of a good diode with my meter it reads between 750and 800 ohms. When I look at the electronics sites, i dont know what to classify the "package" or "case" as. :?

I found the diode at diotec usa. It is called a button diode. Thanks for your help. I am going to try to sample a few of these for a school project. Maybe I can get them for free.
